Physician Spotlight: Dr. Jason Trahan, Otolaryngologist

Where are you Originally from?
I was born and raised in Opelousas, LA

Why did you choose OGH?
I was born at Opelousas General and worked here as an RN in the ICU after college. The hospital and staff were very supportive of my decision to become a physician and they continued to support me throughout medical school and my residency training. I have always been proud to be from Opelousas and felt a sense of loyalty to the community and hospital. I never considered working anywhere other than OGH.

What is your favorite thing about working at OGH?
The staff and physicians at OGH are a tight knit group. There is a sense of family and friendship here that I haven’t experienced anywhere else.
I have worked at most of the major hospitals in Louisiana during my training, I truly believe there is no better place to seek medical care in the region. We have a great group of primary care physicians, specialists, and surgeons here and I am proud to be a part of it.

What do you enjoy most about being a physician?
I enjoy getting to know my patients on a personal level and finding out their background. Being from this area, it is always nice to make a personal connection with the patients.
As an ENT, I have the opportunity to treat patients of all ages with a wide variety medical conditions ranging from very minor to extremely complex.

What would you like everyone to know about you?
I am married to my high school sweetheart, Katie. We are currently expecting our fifth child. Our 4 other children are: Mary Katherine (13), John Parker (11), Jackson (7), and Ellis (4).

What do you do in your spare time?
Spare time is pretty hard to come by these days. I enjoy everything outdoors and hunting is my passion.
Our family life is very busy, and we often spend our weekends at the ballpark watching our kids play
