Obstetrics & Gynecology

The Women's Health Center at Opelousas General Health System is the most comprehensive, state-of-the-art facility between New Orleans and Houston dedicated to women's health, ranking among the leading hospitals its size in Louisiana.

Recognizing the busy lifestyle of today's modern women, the Center is designed for their total needs and comfort. We offer both outpatient and inpatient gynecologic procedures. Our professional team is dedicated to providing each patient with extraordinary care. Because caring for adult women's health demands a multidisciplinary approach, our OB/GYNs work with several different medical and paramedical specialists to offer you the most comprehensive care available.

When to See a Gynecologist

Visits with your gynecologist should be a regular part of every woman’s healthcare routine. It is recommended that women start seeing a gynecologist after their first period or when they become sexually active. Annual visits with the gynecologist keep you on top of your health screenings and overall gynecological health.

Conditions commonly treated by gynecologists include:

  • STDs
  • Abnormal periods
  • Menopause symptoms
  • Incontinence
  • Gynecological cancers
  • Breast cancer
  • Endometriosis
  • Sexual dysfunction

Your gynecologist will help you with personal and sensitive health concerns. It is important you select a provider who makes you feel comfortable. You need to be able to speak openly about your health concerns and have an honest conversation with someone you can trust. The trusted team at OGHS will go above and beyond to provide the discrete, compassionate care you deserve.

Obstetric Care

Obstetricians serve as your partner and resource for prenatal care, labor, and delivery. Your body undergoes numerous changes during pregnancy. Your obstetrician will be the guardian of your health and the developing fetus.

OGHS is Acadiana’s first baby-friendly designated facility. You can learn more about our obstetric services at the Labor and Delivery Center.
