Opelousas General Health System offers a variety of outpatient services, conveniently located at both our Main and South campuses.

Occupational and Physical Therapy

Opelousas General Health System provides comprehensive Physical and Occupational Therapy Services by contract with Moreau Physical Therapy. Our team of therapists brings decades of clinical experience in both occupational and physical therapy. Because we provide care in the acute care, inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient environment, you’ll have excellent continuity of care by staying within our team for each level of care.

Service Locations

  • Our outpatient therapy department is conveniently located on the first floor of the OGH South campus with easy access and parking accommodations.
  • Inpatient rehabilitation is on the second floor of the South campus.
  • Acute care services are located at the Main campus and our experienced team provides excellent service and care to assist in decreasing each patient’s length of stay and increasing our functional outcomes more quickly.
  • Acute care PT/OT is only provided at the Main campus.  
  • Outpatient (first floor) and Inpatient Rehab (second floor) are provided at the South campus

Sleep Disorders Center

The Sleep Disorders Center at Opelousas General features state-of-the-art equipment designed to record and diagnose all types of sleep disorders in adults and children (0 – 18yr.) including:
  • Obstructive sleep apnea
  • Central sleep apnea
  • Complex or mixed sleep apnea
  • Narcolepsy

The Sleep Disorders Center also evaluates and treats the following conditions: 

  • Insomnia 
  • Restless legs syndrome    
  • Shift work disorder    
  • Delayed sleep phase disorder
  • Bedwetting
  • Sleep walking and sleep talking
The mission of the OGHS Sleep Disorders Center is to promote and advance the evaluation and treatment of individuals affected by sleep disorders or sleep-related disorders. Accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, our staff of registered sleep technologists, clinicians, respiratory therapists and board-certified sleep specialists, Dr. J.Y. Bordelon and Dr. Louis Nix, work together to educate and help improve your sleep hygiene. Angie Goins, NP is also part of our team and assists our physicians in patient care.  In addition to sleep studies (lab and home sleep testing), we offer medication therapy as well as positive airway pressure therapy (CPAP, Bipap, Auto SV, AVAPS).

Speech Therapy

The Speech Therapy Department at Opelousas General Health System provides treatment to the adult and pediatric population presenting with medically necessary needs such as:

  • Speech/Language Disorders (Aphasia, Apraxia, Dysarthria, Cognitive Deficits, Head Trauma)
  • Voice Disorders
  • Swallowing Disfunction
Therapy is provided on an inpatient and outpatient basis in a caring, private setting.  The therapists are highly trained with many years of experience.  All therapists have a Masters Degree, certification with the American Speech & Hearing Association and are licensed with the Louisiana Speech & Hearing Association.

Services include prevention, identification, diagnosis and treatment of communication disorders.  Our goal is to treat you with specialized care that will improve or restore your speech, voice or swallowing disorders.

Transfusion Services

Opelousas General offers a wide range of services to meet your blood needs.  For questions concerning your transfusion needs please call 337-948-5145.  Outpatient blood transfusions and therapeutic phlebotomies are performed at the South Campus and may be scheduled by calling 337-948-2256.  The hospital also works closely with LifeShare Blood Center in order to meet all of your blood/blood product needs.

Wound Treatment Center

The Wound Treatment Center, LLC, at Opelousas General takes a multidisciplinary approach to wound healing through:
  • Conventional wound care therapy
  • Debridements (the removal of damaged tissue or foreign objects from a wound.
  • Specialty dressings
  • Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized room to promote healing and fight infection).
  • Compression therapy
Our unit is made up of professionals who work together to give you comprehensive treatments for wound healing. Doctors and nurses who have undergone special training in wound care are joined by nutritionists and other well-trained staff to provide services specific to wound care. Throughout treatment, your primary doctor will participate in your care and be kept informed of your progress.
