Opelousas General Health System Welcomes Dan M. Shapiro, D.O., to its Medical Staff

Lance Armentor, BSM, MHA, President & CEO of Opelousas General Health System announces that Dan M. Shapiro, D.O., will join the OGHS Medical Staff effective September 2026. Dr. Shapiro specializes in Infectious Disease. His scope of service includes complex infection management, immunocompromised care, primary medical care for patients with HIV, sepsis, and other infectious diseases.

Having two physicians with expertise in this important specialty strengthens our medical staff and helps us to provide comprehensive, high-quality care for patients with complex infectious diseases. We are excited about what this growing area of our medical staff means for the future of healthcare in our community.”

Dr. Shapiro completed his medical training at Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lillington, NC. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at UNC Health Southeastern in Lumberton, NC. He completed a fellowship in Infectious Disease at Ochsner Medical Center in Baton Rouge. Dr. Shapiro is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease.

He is a member of American College of Physicians, American Osteopathic Association, and American Academy of Family Physicians.
