A Patient's Experience

For years, Damian Talevich, 38, of Port Barre had sought medical answers for a long-standing concern. In 2026 he was diagnosed with gynecomastia, a condition that causes enlargement of gland tissue in the chest of men. He was referred to Opelousas General surgeon Dr. Eric Amy to discuss surgical treatment options and take the next step toward improving his health and confidence.

Talevich underwent a thorough evaluation, including an ultrasound and mammogram, to ensure the tissue was non-cancerous. Once testing confirmed he was a candidate for surgery, the procedure was scheduled for mid-May.

During the operation, Dr. Amy was able to use smaller incisions than originally anticipated, making the surgery less invasive while still achieving excellent results. The procedure was performed as a partial mastectomy to remove the excess tissue and craft a flatter, masculine chest contour.

Thrilled with the outcome, Talevich hopes his story encourages other men dealing with gynecomastia to seek medical advice and learn about the treatment options available. He says the procedure has been life-changing and would highly recommend it to others facing the same challenge.

"Dr. Amy and my experience at Opelousas General was wonderful,"he said. "From my initial greeting in admissions to the amazing surgery staff, everyone was great. I have never had a bad experience at Opelousas General."

Talevich recovered well and credits the exceptional care he received throughout the process for making his experience a positive one.
