Opelousas General Health System shattered its attendance record in hosting the 13th Annual Community Baby Shower on August 7, 2025. More than 150 new and expectant moms, alongside more than 350 total participants, enjoyed free gifts, food, education and resources at the event held at the Opelousas Civic Center.

Moms traveled from nearby areas such as Lafayette, Carencro, Sunset, Opelousas, Eunice, Mamou and Port barre, but they also came from Abbeville, Basile, Branch, Cottonport, Krotz Springs, Mansura, Plaucheville, St. Martinville, New Iberia and Youngsville.
Event participants were thrilled with the event that featured important information on prenatal care, breastfeeding, safe sleep practices, care seat safety, well-baby visits, postpartum support and more. Registered moms gave a recommendation rating of Opelousas General as 4.7 (out of 5).
Onsite experts included women’s health physician Julissa Braimoh, M.D., pediatricians Brian Adams, M.D. and Justin Meche, M.D. and otolaryngologist Kim Dakin, M.D.
The event would not have been possible without the support of many financial sponsors, including LOFT, Aetna Better Health of Louisiana, PEMM, Healthy Blue, MedExpress, Louisiana Healthcare Connections and United Healthcare Community Plan. Their sponsorships, along with numerous vendor donations, provided gift bags to the first 100 moms as well as 25 fabulous door prizes, making the evening both fun and memorable.
