OGHS Hosts 13th Annual Community Health Fair

Opelousas General Health System would like to invite you to attend our 13th Annual Community Health Fair on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at OGHS’ South Campus located at 3983 I-49 S. Service Road in Opelousas. It will be held from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

Area health care businesses throughout St. Landry and beyond will be joining OGHS in offering free screenings, tests and other medical information to the community. Free drawstring bags will be provided to the first 300 participants!

Featured screenings include hearing, vision, glaucoma, allergy, cholesterol, blood pressure, glucose, peak flow, balance; sleep disorders, grip strength, cardiovascular, stroke and more. Body mass index readings, nutritional counseling, pulse oximetry, wellness and other health information. Low-cost screenings will be available including PSA, (for prostate cancer), A1C, Thyroid Screening and Lipid Profile.

At the health fair, our pharmacy department will be on hand to provide information about medication interactions, opioids, and antibiotics. Our Sleep Disorders Center will be on hand to provide information about narcolepsy, restless leg syndrome and sleep apnea. You can also visit with our orthopedic surgeons to find out if you are a candidate for joint replacement. Information about smoking cessation will be available and the Louisiana State Fire Marshall and the Opelousas Fire Department will have educational demonstrations on fire safety. Additionally, the Opelousas Fire Department will have their smokehouse available to demonstrate what to do in case of a fire in the home. The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries will be on hand to provide information about life jacket safety. Receive a chair message while you are there.

Visit the Pink Booth to find out if you qualify for a free mammogram and pick up breast health educational material. Several health professionals will be on site to analyze results and answer questions regarding the screenings.

There will also be a “Kid’s Corner” with activities and educational material for children sponsored by the Youth Leadership Council of the St. Landry Chamber of Commerce.
