Our latest $68 million dollar expansion and capital improvement plan includes a 5-story parking garage, 6-story Medical Complex, Emergency Center, Coronary ICU and an off campus medical imaging center. In April 2007, construction of a new Sleep Disorders Center for the treatment of adults as well as children was completed and opened.

In 2006, the OGHS Foundation was formed to help raise funds for a healthier community. Thus far, the OGHS Foundation has donated Automated External Defibrillators to all of the high schools in the parish. In addition, the Foundation has funded scholarships totalling $229,840.61 to students pursuing degrees in the healthcare field since 2009. A Healing Garden for patients, visitors and staff was also constructed from foundation funds. Most recently, the foundation funded the construction of the Posner Center waiting area and we are installing digital signage throughout the hospital beginning in February, 2014 provided by foundation funding.

The hospital's medical imaging center incorporates the very latest CT and MRI technology and provides exceptionally clear, sharp images and the fastest scanning times possible. It is located in Sunset, LA, which is approximately 10 miles from the main campus. The Sunset facility offers an 8-channel MRI System, a 16-slice CT, ultrasound, digital X-ray, digital mammography, fluoroscopy, bone densitometry and calcium scoring.

Cardiologists on staff at OGHS were the first physicians in the area to offer a new treatment option for people suffering from the effects of Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD). This new treatment, Diamondback 360 degrees Orbital Atherectomy System, uses a unique orbital motion with an offset, diamond coated "crown" to sand away the plaque, creating a smooth vessel opening or lumen which may improve blood blow. This new system helps remove plaque and restore flow for treatment of PAD.

OGHS offers an 8-bed designated orthopedic unit for patients undergoing orthopedic and spine surgery. Two of the hospital's orthopedic surgeons are among a select number of specially trained physicians cleared to use innovative, less invasive knee prosthesis to help knee replacement patientsd make a quick recovery to daily activities. OGHS also offers Balloon Kyphoplasty, a treatment option for patients suffering from spinal fractures due to osteoporosis.

OGHS was the first hospital in the parish to install in its operating room suites a BIS monitor that provides valuable information and improves the quality of patient care during and after surgery. This monitor enables anesthesiologists to make sure that their patients continually receive a tailored dose of anesthesia throughout their surgery. We were also the first hospital in the area to obtain the da Vinci, a less invasive surgical treatment that enhances surgeon capabilities with state-of-the-art robotics technology. In 2012, we installed the new 3T MRI.

Physicians at OGHS can access patient clinical data via their PD's or smartphones. The PatientKeeper provides "one tap" access to patient's clinical information anytime and anywhere. This improves patient care by ensuring that providers have the most up to date information about their patients regardless of where they are.

OGHS is committed to providing patients with the most advanced quality of medical care available. The facility has expanded to meet the needs of its patients and physicians but believes in the philosophy that the institution is more than just bricks and mortar; it is the employees who make OGHS a word class facility. In fact, many of the recent renovations and expansions are aimed at the employees in giving them a better place to work and heal.
