Opelousas General Health System and LHC Group announced an agreement to share ownership of Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care – a hospice provider serving patients and families in Opelousas, St. Landry Parish, and the surrounding region.

Under the terms of the agreement, OGHS will purchase a minority interest in the agency. Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care will continue to operate under its current name and location at 426 Heather Drive in Opelousas.

“We are excited to announce this expanded level of service in cooperation with our partners at LHC Group,” said Kenneth J. Cochran, President and CEO of OGHS. “This new piece of our existing partnership enhances our ability to provide quality hospice and palliative care to the patients, families, and communities we serve.”

LHC Group and OGHS have been joint venture partners since forming St. Landry HomeCare in 2009.

Working together, LHC Group and OGHS provide a wide range of healthcare services and options that help patients recover, manage chronic conditions, regain strength and independence, maintain quality of life, and plan for end-of-life care when necessary.

Hospice and palliative care programs provide pain management, symptom control, psychosocial support, and spiritual care to patients and their families when a cure is not possible. They combine quality medical care with the emotional and spiritual support that families need most when facing the end of life. Hospice helps people focus on living despite a terminal diagnosis. Through this specialized quality care, many patients and families experience more meaningful moments together.
