Total Women's Care
The Women's Heath center at Opelousas General Health System is the most comprehensive, state-of-the-art facility specifically dedicated to women's heath between New Orleans and Houston and is ranked among the leading hospitals its size in Louisiana. Recognizing the busy lifestyle of today's modern women, the Center is designed for the total needs and comfort of today's woman.

Total Women's Care incorporates all aspects of women's health, with a professional team dedicated to providing each patient with extraordinary care. Because caring for adult women's health demands a multi-disciplinary approach (where gynecologists work with different medical and paramedical specialists) we are committed to serving the physical and emotional needs of women from adolescence through adulthood.

Focusing on "complete wellness", we offer highly personalized care with emphasis on patient education and life-long wellness. Our staff serves all aspects of women's health from family planning to specialized cardiac care, including general care and wellness.

Excellent Care In A Beautiful Setting
Many different diagnostic and treatment procedures are available, such as mammography and bone density testing in our Medical Imaging/Osteoporosis Center. Numerous special programs are also available: Fitness classes, a nutrition/weight loss program, the Breast Health Program, social services and a rape crisis program, to mention a few.

For mothers-to-be, the Center offers a warm, nurturing, healing environment for the baby's birth and mother's recovery. We have nine spacious LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Post-Partum) Suites with decor enhanced by handsome wood rockers, state-of-the-art birthing beds and contemporary headwalls that conceal necessary monitoring equipment.

Once the baby is born, there is a newborn nursery for well babies and an Intermediate level II Nursery for babies needing a higher level of care.

Specialized Cardiac Care For Women
Because coronary heart disease is a leading cause of death and disability in middle-aged and older women, OGHS Women's Heath Center is specifically dedicated to cardiac care for women. Our cardiac health services include specialized diagnostic testing, treatment for, and follow-up of, all aspects of coronary related diseases.

Highly qualified nurses, technicians and assisting medical personnel provide professional treatment in a caring environment with the latest medical technology and the widest range of medical specialties available in this area.

Recognizing risks early and taking preventative measures improves a woman's quality of life. Most specialists agree that a process of health maintenance should start before the beginning of menopause and continue throughout life. Proper counseling concerning changing aspects should include information regarding general health and alteration in lifestyle towards a reduction of these risks.
