Magnetic Resonance Imaging
The newly expanded MRI Department at Opelousas General Hospital sets the standard for image quality and patient care in Acadiana. We apply the most advanced imaging techniques currently available in the industry. Our Studies are performed on the latest generation of high field, short-bore scanner, which produces images of superior quality and high resolution.

The state-of-the-art equipment enables the staff to focus on patient comfort and short scan times as well as produce images that are well above industry standards. Our Department regularly submits studies for publication, and lectures to the Radiology Society of North America conference.

MR Aortagram: MR Aortagram is performed with in 25-second breath hold technique, after injection of Gadolinium. This technique is rapidly replacing older invasive Angiograms, which require an overnight stay by the patient.

Brain MRI: Extremely high-resolution images of the brain are performed along with contrast injection, and are completed in approximately 30 minutes.

MR Myelography: MR Myelography is created using advanced MR Technology without the injection of dye. Opelousas General Hospital remains a pioneer in this field in the state of Louisiana.

The Medical Imaging Department
Opelousas General Hospital's innovative, fully equipped department creates an atmosphere of patient comfort that is unparelled in Louisiana. A 3D Audio/Visual System allows the patient to view and hear movies, TV programs, CD's or the radio. The headset also provides communication between the technologist and patient throughout the exam. The spacious MRI Suite allows for a family member to accompany the patient during their exam to provide comfort and reassurance.

The facility is well equipped for the challenge of safely imaging pediatric patients. Extensive monitoring capabilities, oxygen and nursing staff ensure that children, regardless of age, receive diagnostic information necessary for their specific treatment.

Only skilled technologists who are credentialed by the ARRT in their respective modalities are employed in the department. Our experienced staff is available to physicians for prompt scheduling and personalized attention as it related to their patient's medical imaging needs. Diagnostic data and professional diagnostic opinion is provided within 24 hours of the imaging study to help physicians determine treatment plans. Upon request, reports can be called to the physician's office.
