Emergency Center
The Emergency Center on the Main Campus is located on the first floor,open 24 hours a day and staffed with specially trained physicians at all times. The ER is designed, equipped, and staffed to respond quickly to urgent and unexpected needs of the ill or injured person. It has twenty treatment rooms, two trauma rooms, orthopedic room, and a crisis intervention room.

The Emergency Center at Opelousas General Health System Main Campus also offers a Fast Track department for non life-threatening emergencies. Patients report to the Main Emergency Center, there they are triaged. Once
the visit is determined to be non life-threatening,
the patient is routed to the Fast Tract department
for treatment. The Fast Track will be open from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. every day. Examples of ailments treated in the Fast Track include:
  • fever
  • sinus infection
  • rash
  • sore throat
  • headache
  • earache
  • sprain
  • UTI
  • minor cut or burn
  • insect bite
  • cold or flu
  • allergies

The South Campus Emergency Center is also located on the first floor with full-time physician access. This 14-bed department is designed to accommodate patients who have problems such as sore throats, fever, minor musculoskeletal injuries, noncritical cuts that may need stitches and the like, that do not require the intensive services of the Main Campus ER.
