Surgical Oncology

The Surgical Oncologist plays a major role in the treatment of many cancers. Surgery is the primary treatment for several types of cancer, and it is the Oncologist's job to evaluate the patient and determine whether additional therapy is needed.

In some cases, the surgeon can provide a cure by removing the tumor. In others, surgery can reduce a patient's discomfort or extend his life. The surgeon also educates the patient about the need for follow-up therapy after surgery, such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and / or radiation therapy.
