Speech Department (Speech-Language Pathology)
Located on the second floor Medical Complex North. Opelousas General Health System provides speech, language, and swallowing services to infants, children, and adults/geriatrics who exhibit communication disorders. Service includes prevention, identification, diagnosis, consultation, and treatment. A certified and licensed Speech-Language Pathologist provides these services to OGHS inpatients, rehab patients, and outpatients.
The treatment program consists of assessing the communication, cognitive and/or swallowing function of the patient by a Speech/Language Pathologist. An individualized treatment plan is developed and implemented with family involvement to provide the highest level of functional independence for the patient. Treatment activities may include expressive and receptive language tasks, verbal problem solving, reasoning, attention and organizational tasks, plus a variety of swallowing techniques...all designed to enhance the patient's ability to function more independently within their environment.
A certified and licensed Speech-Language Pathologist provides speech and language diagnostic and rehabilitative services for adults and children exhibiting communication disorders. Services are available to inpatients and outpatients. |  |
