Opelousas General Health System Receives Special Recognition from LOPA

February 11, 2009 – Opelousas, LA. Opelousas General Health System is one of nine hospitals in the state of Louisiana to receive special recognition for their dedication and commitment to the success of the Donate Life Louisiana Hospital Campaign. The award was presented to Gerald A. Fornoff, at the Winter Symposium of the Louisiana Hospital Association.

The Donate Life Louisiana Hospital Campaign is a collaborative effort between the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA) and The Louisiana Hospital Association to increase the number of registered organ donors in Louisiana. This is the first-ever, statewide hospital donor registration drive initiative in the nation. The original goal of the Donate Life Louisiana Hospital Campaign was to increase the registry by 160,000 and was achieved in August 2009. A new goal was set to increase that number to 200,000 and we are 98% to our goal (over 198,000 already registered). Since we will soon reach the 200,000 goal the LHA board has decided to raise the bar once again – 250,000 by the end of 2010. The nine hospitals recognized for their outstanding contributions to the Donate Life Louisiana Hospital Campaign were:
                          Bunkie General
                          CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini
                          Lafayette General
                          Ochsner Medical Center
