The Distinguished Partners in Education Program was created in 1989 by The Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) to recognize businesses, industries, non-education associations and individuals who have made significant contributions to public education in Louisiana. The contributions don’t have to be financial, but must demonstrate a sustained commitment to and support of quality education. It also serves as an incentive for others to support education.

A committee consisting of previous recipients of the Award as well as representatives of the Louisiana Department of Education selected the recipients. Nominees were judged on the duration of their partnership with a school; the number and type of participants involved; partnership goals and objectives; partnership activities; and evidence of substantive results related to partnership goals. Schools, district superintendents, businesses, groups and individuals submitted nominations.
