Opelousas General Health System announces “Wellness Challenge” winners

Mike Morris, Corporate Wellness Director and Stephanie Morris, Corporate Wellness Coordinator recently held a reception to announce the winners of the 60-Day Wellness Challenge. The goal of the challenge, which began on February 17th, was to improve employee health and fitness in two months. Participants were responsible for keeping an eight-week journal, which tracked their daily activities and food intake. The healthier the food and the more activity, the more points they earned. They also earned points by attending fitness classes such as a the 20 minute circuit class and the 60-minute total body class The attendance of nutrition/fitness educational seminars also earned them points. Each participant wore a pedometer during the challenge to keep track of their mileage, which added to their points. They were also able to earn points by the percentage of their total body weight loss. Both Mike and Stephanie offered coaching and counseling to the participants during the 8-week period. In the end, points were tallied and a grand prize-winner was declared. In addition to a “Better Life”, the first place winner, Betty Oville won all of the money collected at registration. The second place winner, Prescilla Pickens, and the third place winner, Freida DeJean, won a combination of gift certificates to Academy, the OGHS Lobby Shop and the Cafeteria. Also included in the prizes were Resist-A-Balls. Pictured are the top three winners and the ten finalists.
