ER Opening at the South Campus
OPELOUSAS, LA JULY 24, 2009 - Opelousas General Health System is pleased to announce the opening of an all new 24 hour, 7 day a week Emergency Services Department located on the I-49 South Campus on July 15, 2009. Now patients can choose the most convenient location based upon the severity of their illness.
“We are very excited to be able to have two emergency departments for our community,” said OGHS President/CEO Gerald Fornoff. “ Our record of success, coupled with our state-of-the-art technology and expert staff will afford the best emergency care in the area, Fornoff said.
The OGHS Main Campus Emergency Center is a state-of-the-art facility open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Emergency Department at the OGHS Main Campus is available to persons requiring critical and immediate emergency services.
The OGHS South Campus Emergency Department, which is less than 10 minutes from the Main Campus, is specially designed to accommodate patients who have problems such as sore throats, fever, minor musculoskeletal injuries, non-critical cuts that may require stitches and the like that do not require the intensive services of the Main Campus Emergency Department.
By opening the South Campus Emergency Department we will be able to focus on the treatment of minor and ambulatory problems and allow the Main Campus Emergency Department to focus on more severe illnesses.” said Mark Olivier, M.D. Medical Director of the OGHS Emergency Department. “With both emergency departments open, we can now better serve the emergency needs of Opelousas and the surrounding area, he said.
“Both facilities will be staffed with experienced, specially trained ER Physicians, nurses and support staff,” said John Armand OGHS Emergency Department Director. “ By having two ED’s this will allow us to see patients in a more timely fashion.”
In addition to the opening of the Emergency Department, OGHS is opening a 12 bed psychiatric inpatient facility called Senior Care Center and moving the Rehabilitation Center from the Main Campus to the South Campus. By moving some of the services to the South Campus this will open up additional inpatient beds at the Main Campus. In August, the Long Term Acute Care Unit will relocate from the Main Campus to the South Campus. |
