Donate Life
The goal of the Donate Life Louisiana Hospital Campaign is to increase the Donate Life Louisiana Registry by 10 percent (160,676 individuals) by the end of 2009.
The Louisiana Hospital Association (LHA) and the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA) have partnered on this hospital-focused campaign, which is the first-ever, statewide hospital donor registration drive initiative in the nation.
Campaign Champions at hospitals across the state have agreed to educate their employees and communities about organ donation and to give them the opportunity to register their donation decisions. Participating hospitals have set specific goals for their facilities to help us reach this number.
As part of the campaign, the LHA and LOPA are collaborating with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on the Give 5 – Save Lives initiative to provide needed resources and materials to the hospitals.
The Donate Life Louisiana Hospital Campaign and the Give 5 – Save Lives initiative are needed because 100,375 people are waiting for a life saving organ transplant in the U.S., and 1,813 of them are in Louisiana. An average of 18 people on the national waiting list die every day because no organ is available. In addition, hundreds of thousands of people could benefit from tissue and eye donations.
Hospital employees and members of the community can register their generous decisions to become organ and tissue donors at a participating hospital, or simply go online to www.donatelifela.org to register!
