Cardiopulmonary Diagnostic Lab
Opelousas General Health System's Cardiopulmonary Diagnostic Lab Department provides complete diagnostic care. Cardiopulmonary Diagnostic Lab has been accredited by the Intersocietal Commission for The Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL) since 1999 and Intersocietal Commission for The Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL) since 2000.
Services available during scheduled work hours:
- Cardiac Stress Test is a test used in medicine and cardiology to measure the heart's ability to respond to external stress in a controlled clinical environment.
- Holter Monitor is a machine that continuously records the heart's rhythms. The monitor is usually worn for 24 - 48 hours during normal activity.
- Pulmonary Function Studies are a group of tests that measure how well the lungs take in and release air.
- Adult Echocardiogram is a test that uses ultrasound waves to examine the heart. Because it is a non-invasive test, it is a safe and painless way to help doctors diagnose a number of abnormalities of the heart.
- Pediatric Echocardiogram is the same as an Adult.
- Stress Echocardiogram is a test that combines an ultrasound study of the heart with a stress test. A stress echo looks at how the heart functions when it is made to work harder.
- Transesophageal Echo is a special ultrasound test for examining the heart in greater detail.
- Carotid Ultrasound is a safe, painless procedure that uses sound waves to examine the structure and function of the carotid arteries in the neck.
- Venous Ultrasound is a diagnostic test used to check the circulation in the large veins in the legs for Deep Vein Thrombosis as called DVT, or Varicose Veins ECT.
- Arterial Ultrasound is used to record blood velocities through the main arteries of the leg. Velocities can indicate the presence of arterial stenosis or Peripheral Vascular Disease as called PVD.
- Full Volume Cardiac Imaging The system allows caregivers to provide the benefits of echocardiography for difficult-to-image persons or patients who have difficulty holding their breath. It generates right and left ventricular volumes and ejection fractions rapidly and reliably.
